How to Adjust to MASSIVE Change

Right now, the world is completely changing around us. Seemingly with every moment. And you’re probably experiencing some significant, possibly unwelcome change. Don’t let it throw you off your game.

We have to learn how to adapt so that we can continue to thrive. No matter what’s going on around us, we only get one life. We have to do what it takes to make the most of it, because how you thrive in this moment is completely up to you.

I repeat:

How you thrive in this moment is completely up to you.

It may not seem that way right now. Maybe there’s an outside source affecting your ability to see that this is your responsibility. But that doesn’t change the fact that its on you. You get to choose. This is your opportunity to take a step back from what isn’t within your control, and focus on what is.

When it comes to change, the biggest problem is that playing the victim is easy, and taking responsibility is much, much harder. When you take ownership for your work, your habits, your behavior, and your life itself, that is when you find success.

How to Adjust to MASSIVE Change

1. Stop the Blame Game

It’s SO easy to blame others to make ourselves feel better. When we’re flustered, we tend to come up with excuses. It somehow feels easier to explain yourself so that you can feel better about the result of something, and that typically involves blame.

When we blame outside sources, we’re not really having the most authentic conversation with ourselves about how to fix whatever the problem is. Blaming others prevents you from taking ownership, so you find yourself grappling with the same problem over and over and over. If you never took responsibility for your role in the situation, so how can you expect to adjust?

Taking ownership eliminates blame. Adjust to change by acknowledging the responsibility you have to adjust, and do what you need to do.

2. Believe in Yourself

In order to adjust, you need to be capable of saying ‘I can get through this.’

And that belief must be unconditional.

There is no ‘if’, no ‘only when’, none of that. If you continue to take ownership and control the controllable, you will adjust. Being unsure of your abilities is a great way to get frustrated, or just not make an effort at all. When you believe in your ability to get through something, the only thing left to ask is ‘what’s next?’

3. Give Yourself Permission

So many people are seeking permission to go after the life they want. Permission from a friend, a spouse, a parent. From social media or the news. But you have to get permission from yourself to do the things you need to do. If you know what your mission is and you want to chase it, no one can stop you but you.

Per your mission, you have permission. It’s that simple.

4. Brainstorm Your Skills

Sit down and ask yourself: ‘what are the skills that I have?’ ‘what is the value that I have to give?’ ‘what can I do to make a difference?’

Do you need to take care of yourself first and foremost? Yes. But what comes next is how you help the people around you. You cannot succeed individually if those around you in the world are suffering.

We’re all unique. We all bring different things to the table. If you don’t know what you’re good at, ask the people closest to you. Adjust to change by becoming a source of value for those in need.

5. Talk to People

Talk to others about how they feel, what they’re struggling with, and what they’ve noticed about you in the time you’ve known them. What do they think you’re good at? What do they think you can help with?

It may not be your passion, and that’s okay. But hearing these ideas from the people around you can give you a starting point for finding that thing you’re passionate about. If you get into the mindset of bringing value and helping people, you can start to find the thing that gets you fired up and ready to go every morning.

6. Be Resourceful

Locate and use the resources that are going to help move you through this adjustment. In a moment of massive change, finding the ability to navigate the next step is vital. What can you do to help, and what can you use to be more effective?

Get out of your head, and instead become so busy getting things done that you don’t even have time to think about the change happening around you.
